A bone density scan, or DEXA scan, is a
simple, non-invasive and painless exam used
to measure bone mass in areas such as your
spine, hip, and wrist and is used to detect
osteoporosis. Bone density is a diagnostic
exam and must be ordered by your health
care provider. The standard test uses a very
low dose X-ray to detect signs of bone
thinning and mineral loss. Many people don't
know they have osteoporosis until they have a
fracture or have a bone density scan.
Check with your health care provider to
discuss if you should have a scan performed.
Please wear comfortable clothing without
metal buttons, buckles or zippers for your
DEXA appointment. Complete evaluation,
recommendations and results are discussed
with you by one of our specially trained bone
densitometrists before you leave the office.
The report of your exam is issued to your
healthcare provider typically within one hour
of your exam.
Imaging for Women offers body fat analysis scans in the comfort and privacy of our office. You
will receive an in-depth analysis of your fat to lean mass ratio. To help with your long-term goals,
we also offer a discounted package.
